Vibram Five Fingers and the neutral minimalist craze.

Recently there has been a lot of information in the media about running barefoot, partly due to the popularity of the book Born to Run by Chris McDougall.  We at the Delaware Running Company believe most athletes can benefit from strenghtening their feet and lower legs muscles. Studies have proven some of the benfits of exercising barefoot.   But not many people can find a perfectly manicured grass surface on which to run. 

The challenge lies with the risk of injury that may occur by simply going and running barefoot on the roads or local trails.  For several years we have carried and supported such products as the Nike Free (now the Nike RUN+ Free) which is a shoe that helps mimic barefoot running.  And now we are excited to be able to provide the Vibram Five Fingers- A very minimal footwear product that stimulates the muscles in your feet and lower legs to build strength and improve range of motion.  Also included in this category is the Saucony Kinvara and Type A4.  Much of our staff will periodically workout or enjoy walking in Nike Free's or the Kinvara in an effort to stregthen our legs.

We believe that these products can help enhance and improve your training and performance.  We do not think they will replace your running shoes.  We caution our friends to progress gradually into these alternative products. The too-much-too-soon phenomenon can be a problem for anyone’s foot. In our local area we have seen an increase in injuries from people that attempted but did not prepare for the new running form required to "run minimal".  In the case of heavy pronators, Vibram FiveFingers might not be a wise choice for weight-bearing activities. Pronators will definitely benefit from some focused rehabilitation and foot-specific exercises before wearing any minimalist footwear.

Return Policy:

Shoes wore outside cannot be returned

For Exchange of Return:

  • Must have receipt within 30 days of purchase
  • Tags must be attached
  • No stains or signs of wear

For Store Credit:

  • Item has no tags, but with receipt
  • If purchased on sale, refund or exchange will be given for paid price.

Our New Gift Cards :

  1. Our gift cards do not have any service charges and do not expire.

Gift Certifacte Policy:

  1. Gift certificates expire one year from the date of issuance.
  2. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash and cannot be returned for a cash refund.
  3. Any unused balance will be placed in a "credit memo account" in recipient's name and is not transferable.
  4. If your order exceeds the amount of your gift certificate, you must pay for the balance.
  5. Gift certificate cash value is 1/10 of one cent.
  6. We are not responsible for lost or stolen gift certificates. In the event the customer does not have it with them at the time of purchase, we will make our best effort to help find a record of that gift certificate. 
  7. The Delaware Running Company will have the right to close customer accounts and request alternative forms of payment if a fraudulently obtained gift certificate is redeemed.
  8. The Delaware Running Company reserves the right to change these terms and conditions from time to time in its discretion. Gift certificates are issued directly and sold directly by The Delaware Running Company.
